Have you set your 2019 goals, and are you planning actionable, trackable, measurable goals?
I'm excited to share with you my 2019 goals and planning strategies because this is the year I know things are going to increase and become even better.
2018 was the first time in a long time that I hit every single goal that I set out to achieve! So I wanna step you through what that process looks like and how you can do that for yourself too.

Get Your Planathon On
I have participated in the Planathon for the last five years and it's run by an amazing woman called Amber McCue. It. Is. Phenomenal! It just always sets the tone for an amazing year ahead. I love the idea of starting 2019 with clear goals and planning how that will look in action.
She runs the Planathon from the end of October through the first week in November, and I have been setting goals and planning for 2019 since then. In short, I'm in a great frame of mind to start the new year with fresh goals.
Amber is also the beautiful mind behind this amazing workbook that you can grab on Amazon.
It is more of a workbook than a planner, so it's definitely not designed for you to set out your daily tasks or anything like that. But what it will do is allow you to clarify how you want your life to be, as far as your business and your personal life, in the year ahead. I definitely recommend grabbing it. It's not too late to get started! It's so worth checking out.
Things to Consider
In her workbook, Amber walks you through things like:
- what worked well in 2018 and what didn't work well
- how you want your life to look in 2019
- where your educational gaps are
- what is it that you're actually going to do to earn money
These are things people don't necessarily think about when they're starting their own online business.
I'd recommend that you definitely work out what that looks like for you, using this workbook.
2019 Goals and Planning With the Fresh Start Guide
Let’s cover a few things about how this works.
Carve out a minimum of 15 minutes of uninterrupted time to start this process. More if you can spare it! You need to think deeply and clearly about what you want your life to look like. Be detailed and specific.
For example, if you’ve identified that you want more money in your life, is it because of the things you can do with it, or is it a broader feeling of freedom that comes with increased assets? There are no wrong answers here, just clarity.
Now that you're a little clearer in your mind on what this looks like, turn your attention to your body. If you can identify what it feels like to have already attained that goal, that increases clarity in your body. When you get mind and body working together toward a common goal, you become a powerful magnet for possibility.
The Best Part?
The best thing I love about this is that it gets you to set the theme for the year.
As a result, you get to choose how you want to feel!
Every year Amber chooses a theme word. She shares it with you inside the workbook, and I'm going to share with you what my theme is for 2019…
For 2019, I am looking for more serenity.
Now, that word is kind of loaded. Consequently, it means lots of different things to lots of different people.
For me, serenity looks like this:
- It feels like: calm, aware, happy, inner flow, focused
- It looks like: saying no, doing what feels right, being happy with the decisions I make (even if they're not fully my own), taking charge, empowered and productive, balanced days and more fun
That’s what serenity looks like for me.
I have that printed out and sitting behind my laptop where I can see it every single day. It helps me get clarity on my 2019 goals while planning their execution.
I then switch into a 90-day plan using Trello. I've talked about this before and here’s a link on how to set up your own 90-day plan.
Basically, you are taking your overall goals for the year and then breaking them down into 90, 60, and 30-day increments.
Ask yourself how are you going to get to those goals that you've set for the year, in those mini steps?
Using the previous example of wanting more money, break that down for yourself. Ask yourself these questions:
- What’s the amount?
- What action do you need to take?
- What’s achievable in 30/60/90 days, given time constraints and other obligations?
For example, one of my goals is to launch a book in March. This means that I need to outline the book in 30 days, write the book by day 60, and publish and launch the book by day 90.
So write out all your 2019 goals and get planning on how to reward yourself once you've achieved them. And by the way, schedule those little rewards in, too.
Build in Flexibility Through Awareness
The great thing about doing a 90-day plan is that it allows you to be flexible.
In my 2018 annual review, I talked about the realization I had, where I realized very quickly in Q1 the strategic plan I had created for the year just wasn't gonna work. So I just threw it out!
Being flexible and being aware of what is going on in your business allows you to make those really quick decisions and be able to pivot as needed. A 90-day plan supports you in this mission.
For Q1, I'm focusing on three big things, and those three things all feedback into my overarching goals which are:
- financially to hit $150,000 profit for 2019
- to grow my email subscriber list to 10,000 subscribers
- to create and write content that converts and also offers value
As those are my three overarching goals, everything that I do needs to fit within one of those buckets.
When you're setting up your own 2019 goals and planning your best year yet, make sure everything you do aligns back to your overarching goals. That's how you make sure the things you set out are achieved. Also, be realistic with your time, making sure you schedule all the good stuff in too.
What Does This Look Like?
I'm going to jump into showing you what my 2019 plans look like by sharing with you my goal card for 2019.
I wanted to quickly share what this looks like, and also note that you can grab your own version of this and edit it for yourself.
Definitely, print it out once you've edited in your own details.
At this red hot second, I have a print out of my goal card sitting right above my laptop. I refer to it often as I'm planning 2019 out into weeks, months, and quarters.
And I certainly refer back to it when I need to pivot.
The key to making this work is ensuring you add in timelines, so you know exactly when you're keeping track of these things. And then, adjust as you need to.
Planning My 2019 Goals
I'm focusing on:
- increasing affiliate income
- writing and launching four books
- creating and publishing a workbook
- growing my list to 10,000 subscribers
Everything I do needs to align with these things, and that influences what I'll be doing throughout the rest of the year.
Lastly, I have the overall financial goal written out. That's the high-level goal I'm working towards and is consequently where all these things tie back into.
Bottom Line?
If you wanna do this for yourself, you need to:
- set your intentions
- set financial targets
- work out your timeline
- decide how you're going to deliver value to the people that you're serving
You can set all this up in a Trello board to keep on top of all.the.things.
But here's the deal:
You need to take action today. Not tomorrow. Do it today! One small movement toward your goal every day creates momentum, and that's what it takes to make this year phenomenal.
As a result of taking action, you will amaze yourself with what can be accomplished when you set goals and work your plan: the plan you created for the life you envisioned.
I'm excited to hear your 2019 goals and planning you're doing towards getting them going.
Once you’ve got that all sorted, drop me a line in the comment section with your goals. Or better yet, share a copy of your goal card!
Remember you can get a copy of my goal card to edit for yourself here.
Here's to an amazing 2019 for you and your family!
