What “Stopping Social Media” Really Means
Hey, hey! Welcome to The Easy Does It podcast.
We’re kicking things off with Season 5, Episode 1, and a huge Happy New Year to you!
I’m excited to kick off this season by sharing my story of completely stepping away from social media.
When I say I stopped social media, I mean I REALLY stopped:
- No more posting
- Closed my Facebook group
- Complete halt on active social media engagement
The only automation I maintain is blog content sharing to my LinkedIn page and Facebook page.
My Instagram profile remains static – it exists simply as a presence with a clear call-to-action directing people to my email list.
The Big Question: Can You Make Money Without Social Media?
The answer is a resounding YES!
I haven’t been actively doing anything on social media for over 4 years now, and I’m still making money.
It’s not about constant posting – it’s about understanding how to be visible to your audience in ways that align with your offers and values.
The First Step: Ask Yourself This Question
Grab your pen and paper!
The first crucial question to ask yourself is: “Do I want to be actively on social media?”
If you love posting reels and genuinely enjoy being on social platforms, that’s perfectly fine! But if your answer is no, then keep reading.
Important Truth About Social Media
Remember this crucial point: you don’t own your social media audience – the platform does.
Unless you’re prepared to:
- Pay for ads during launches
- Run 2-3 week lead-up campaigns
- Constantly hustle for organic reach
Creating Your Non-Social Media Strategy
Here’s what to focus on instead:
1. Maintain a Basic Presence
- Keep basic profiles active
- Make them static but professional
- Direct traffic to your owned assets
2. Build Assets You Own
For me, this includes:
- Email list (primary focus)
- Paid Heartbeat community
3. Choose Your Visibility Platform
Pick ONE of these:
- Podcast
- YouTube channel
- Blog
4. Focus on Discoverability
- Optimize for search engines (SEO)
- Implement AI SEO strategies
- Create valuable lead magnets
5. Leverage Collaborations
Replace social media visibility with:
- Bundle participations
- Summit appearances
- Giveaway collaborations
- Podcast interviews
Making The Transition
Remember, stepping away from social media isn’t about stopping everything overnight.
It requires planning and strategy.
Focus on building your email list first – that’s where the real magic happens.
My success last year came primarily through email marketing because that’s where I concentrated all my efforts.
Final Thoughts
It’s absolutely possible to run a successful business without social media, but it requires intentional planning and focusing on building assets you own.
Sometimes we go through different seasons – I was all in on social media until 2022, but then I stepped into a different season and adjusted my strategy accordingly.
Remember, what you focus on brings results.
Choose your platforms wisely, create valuable content for your owned assets, and build genuine connections through collaborations.
